Final Farewell!

Well, here we are at the end our learning season together. I am so proud at what shining stars you have all become. Whether we were learning about "The Georges" or building our stamina in Daily 5, you gave it your best and with enthusiasm. You met challenge after challenge that came your way! Your enthusiasm for learning and energy for life inspired me every day. I wish each and every one of you all the best in your future school and life experiences. Please remember that every story and every moment in life is important. Make the most of every day and waste not a single moment. You all have so many wonderful talents and special qualities that make you different and unique. See those differences as what sets you above and apart from everyone else. Take every opportunity that comes your way and strive to always give 100%. Thank you all for being a part of this chapter in my life's story, Mrs. Harkreader ***Not only did the chapter end but so did my entire journey at JWW. I was offered a Reading Specialist position at Guild Elementary in Gallatin, TN. I have been professionally ready for a new adventure but will personally miss all my kiddos and my JWW family. They have meant the world to me and have been such a huge part of my life for over 8 years. Celebs prepare for Field Day!

The celebs spent sometime preparing for their visit to Survivor Field Day! They prepared their 4th grade survivor shirts using sharpies, rubbing alcohol, and lots of creativity. The celebs met with all the other 4th grade students for a fun, shirt signing event. Our flag was modeled after the New Zealand tribe of Maori. We used Zentangles to add designs to our canvas hands. They say there is Strength in Numbers...so we combined all our hands together to create our flag. Check out all the paparazzi pics of our field day preparations.

The celebs have had another great week of learning! During their week they explored the life of mountain men and experienced a rendezvous! They had to barter pelts for goods...some found they were good at bartering...others-not so much! We also had some fun brain breaks with Peeps Cake and wearing our thinking caps. Hatching EGG-cellent TCAP scores!

Week 2 has been a great week for TCAP prep. Our attendance at Sunrisers has been just outstanding. The celebs have earned many blue ribbons for their Study Island Performance.  I can really see them getting more and more prepared for our upcoming TCAP test. I do believe the winning brain break of the week was Environment Tag. However, the rainbow cake and conga line were also huge hits! Celebs are TCAP Driven!

The celebs returned from their Spring Break ready to dig in and prepare for TCAP. To help keep them feeling refreshed and rejuvenated throughout the day, we stop and enjoy several types of brain breaks. Celebs Celebrate Spring Break!

Celebs walk for Technology

The celebs have been helping their school, J W Wiseman, to raise money for new computers. They began by getting pledges for the number of laps they could walk around the Wiseman track for 30 minutes. When the day of the event arrived, the celebs were all fired up to get as many laps as they could. It was such a great day to get some exercise, walk with friends, and raise money for much needed computers. Check out the paparazzi pics of this amazing event...

The 19 Hats of Harkreader Hills

Hats off to Dr. Seuss! To celebrate his birthday the celebs chose to create vocab-hats! They selected an interesting word and then decorated their hat to match. We modeled our hat collection after the Dr. Seuss book "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins." You can check out the 19 Hats of Harkreader Hills in the paparazzi pics below.

Celebs care for the earth!

This week the celebrities not only "went green" for 4-H but also helped to reduce trash. The celebs created craft items by recycling items they would have normally just tossed in the trash. Celebs win Gold in Olympic Studies!

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics took place from February 6^th  -February 23^rd.   Athletes from around the world traveled to Russia to compete in 98 events in 15 winter sport disciplines, all with the dream of winning gold! During the Olympics the celebs followed the events and medals earned and stored all their data in an Olympics Lapbook. Love is in the Air!

Love was in the air at Harkreader Hills as Valentine's Day arrived. The celebs did not waste a minute of their lovely celebration and enjoyed a sweet-heart themed Minute to Win It game. They had to bite off the ends of their Twizzler to create a straw they would use to blow the pixie stick candy out of the circle. They then had to give a one-handed kiss (open their kiss with one hand and eat it) then open their m&m bag and sort them into colors while remaining one handed. The final obstacle was to solve an order of operations problem based on the colors of the m&ms. It was so fun that the celebs had to play a few rounds, just to get the hang of it-of course! The celebs just still hadn't filled their sweet-tooth quite full enough so they enjoyed creating their own ultimate ice cream floats. They then took to reading their Fan Mail while enjoying their yummy floats. The Language of Love

Love is in the air at Harkreader Hills. The celebs shared what love is to them by writing a poem describing something they love! They also picked a book that "captured their hearts" and wrote a summary about just what the book is all about. Check out the Paparazzi pics of all these lovely celebrity writings...

Celebrity Chefs are energized!

The celebrity chefs cooked up some tasty cornbread for their February 4-H meeting. The celebs followed the requirements to bake some yummy cornbread muffins. The competition was steep and it was hard to select the top cornbread chefs. Our 4-H leader, Mrs. Vann, made the final selections. 1st place: Matthew 2nd place: Blake 3rd place: Kennedy During our meeting the celebs also learned about different forms of energy and how we can conserve energy. You can see all the great paparazzi pics of their delicious cornbread muffins and energized energy lessons below.

Our Lion King...Mr. Wix

This week, the celebs had the honor of joining their school to honor their principal, Mr. Wix. They wrote adjectives describing him and added their own interpretation of him in illustration form. The celebs performed and recorded their first musical piece, "You are our Lion King" under the direction of Mrs. Evie. The celebs and I know how very lucky we are to have a principal who truly cares about them and wants them all to be successful. Check out the paparazzi pics and debut of their musical performance...

Celebs explore the Moon!

The celebs have been traveling to great distances to learn more about the moon and the Lunar Cycle.
They are huge fans of science explorations that you can eat. One of our favorites is the Oreo Cookie Moon Phases activity. It’s almost as if Oreo cookies were made for this lesson, and it’s a great way for the celebs to match a moon phase name with a moon phase appearance.
They then put their star designer skills in action as they designed their glow in the dark lunar phase t-shirt! Check back soon to see a "glowing photo" of the celebs sporting their new designs. Check out the paparazzi pics below...

Star-Studded Tailgating!

The celebrities were out is full football attire to cheer on their favorite football team. The Broncos and Seahawks were both well represented by the star-studded tailgaters. The Superbowl Bash began with tailgate training stations. Students designed helmet heads while exploring circumference and radius. Their cutting edge fashion skills were used to design Superbowl Symmetry Jerseys. Students practiced their quarterback and multiplication skills at That's a Fact Football station. They tossed the ball to their quarterback. If the pass was complete a touchdown was scored. At the end of the game, the teams multiplied their total touchdowns to determine the winning team! After a brief tutorial from Mrs. McGee on how to fold a paper football, paper football was a favorite after students checked out the playbook on Sports Illustrated Kids and the NFL Kid Zone.

At the completion of the training stations, the celebrities were ready for the tailgate festivities to begin! Food was a plenty with chips and dip, pizza bites, and tasty desserts. The celebrities all showed great teamwork and sportsmanship. Let's hope the Broncos and Seahawks will do the same on Super Bowl Sunday. Check out the paparazzi pics of all the tailgaiting fun!
